During Xixi's "Gorch Watch" where fruit must be thrown into its cave to appease it, Julien, Maurice, and Clover enter the cave and rescue Doc Sugarfoot, a charming old lemur who was trapped inside after his tail was pinned down while hiding from the Fossa years earlier. Julien then takes him on as part of his royal counsel. Soon, Doc Sugarfoot challenges Julien to a popularity-based election where the most popular lemur gets to be king.
