Cartaphilius explains his plan: since he is cursed with eternal life and Chise is cursed to die, he proposes to swap Chise’s arm for his own, hoping it will curse Cartaphilius to die and for Chise with immortality. He forcibly switches his and Chise’s left eye to see if a transplant works. Chise falls asleep and recalls her past, while Cartaphilius enters her memory. While Chise was tormented by creatures, her father and brother died abandoning the latter, and her mother committed suicide after a failed attempt to kill her...
