Ruby's group begins losing hope, resulting in Ruby accidentally dropping the Relic of Knowledge into a well. Team RWBY enters the well to find it and discovers Grimm called the Apathy, which can numb emotion and had caused the farmers' deaths. They petrify the team, but Maria, who is revealed to be a silver-eyed warrior, helps Ruby activate her silver eyes to destroy them, and the group flees the village.
