Mac Gargan, a small-time crook hired by J. Jonah Jameson to follow Peter Parker and find out how he's able to get pictures of Spider-Man, strikes a deal with Jameson to eliminate Spider-Man. Gargan is taken to the lab of Dr. Farley Stillwell, where he is transformed into the supervillain Scorpion.
