The girls rely on their mother's magical make-up to cover their marks. After a mishap, Maximus sees Mischa's mark: he is furious with her and storms off. Headmaster Kristov corners the twins and it is apparent that he has long known of their marks. They escape from his clutches and run back to the dance.
