Mendoza narrowly escapes Ambrosius' attack. The latter claims that it was Mendoza who assaulted him, but he loses his compass, which Esteban picks up and tends to him by reflex. Suddenly, the young boy realizes: this compass should be in the possession of Zares, who stole it from Ichiro. How could Ambrosius have it? Is he the accomplice of Zares?
