Things aren't going well for the goblins. They have run out of food supplies and starvation is imminent. Since Lord Kann would never ask the elves for help, Doppel offers to steal food from the elves. In doing so, he and Shil endanger the lives of Thalia, her friends and Daiman. Although Thalia's dream of peace among themselves and her love for Daiman proves unrealistic, she ends up helping the kobolds to get food.
